      Check Your Freedom

      IIAL

The objective of the Department of Basic Education’s ‘Incremental Introduction of African Languages’ (IIAL) programme is to foster nation building and encourage social cohesion by improving learners’ proficiency in African languages.

The DBE commissioned EISH to produce an IIAL DVD series for Grade 1 to help facilitate the learning (and teaching) of African languages at a Second Additional Language (SAL) level.

Produced in nine languages, the lessons use puppets, songs and stories to introduce Grade 1 learners to new language concepts in a fun and energetic way.

The DBE has delivered the IIAL DVD packs to primary schools nationwide.
